A Tribute to Russell Mockridge - Cycling Victoria History and Heritage Podcast

June 19, 2014

Today we will speak to Lindsay MacCauley and Reg Sweeten including their memories of Rusell Mockridge.

MACAULEY was a  member of the Geelong Amateur Cycling Club in the late forties and early fifties who rode with, and against, the great Russell Mockridge in club events, and who has vivid memories of some of the highlights of the latter’s early cycling career – including Mockridge’s astonishing debut performance in 1946.

REG SWEETTEN was the lone limit marker in the Geelong Amateur Cycling Club’s Geelong-Drysdale (and return) handicap race in 1946 - Russell Mockridge’s very first race – and therefore able to provide a graphic account of the famous moment when Mockridge requested permission to strike out on his own.
